In the age of digital media we hear that we are constantly tracked but how many crumbles do we leave behind while browsing the internet?

In the depth of the internet age, you may want to hide away in an off-the-grid cottage and bake bread from realizing the number of websites that hound for your information and creepily send ads of some shoes you were looking at a day ago… however, don’t worry, there are more things you can do to keep track of where your information goes while browsing on the internet.

data visualization of the sites that are requesting access to my browsing data on this website.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try this extension called Disconnect on Mozilla Firefox where it blocks and tracks that are connected to any site.

55!!!

I decided to browse the internet for one of the worst offenders and so came in this one… the website in question that has 55 requests!!!

It is truly insane how much information that is being tracked without our knowing. Even if we willingly sign terms of service agreements that also makes us sign our rights away for “personal branding”

Looking deeper into what was tracking me — some of these are unrecognizable and it goes to show how we really don’t know what and where this information is going.

If you ever want to try this out, there are many other sites that also track your internet footprint, block ads and trackers, and so on!

I don’t think we should let all these sites take advantage of the information we provide — especially unknowingly. It is really important to be aware and protect yourself as much as possible either through checking out the other sites that will block those random sites that track your information. Also, be sure to have some sort of anti-virus software and a VPN for local/online file safety and browsing.

Now go forth and frolic on the internet. Hopefully, you learned to be more protected and knowledgeable than before! Remember that that you can keep all the bits of the cookie you enjoy! Happy browsing! : D
